generator like sound at start up and turn off

i just purchased an 04 grand marquis and there is a generator like sound that comes on when i just turn or shut off the car. the sound is coming from under the hood towards the left driver side. anyone else experiencing this.

Air compressor for air suspension?

thats what i thought but i wasnt sure if it was supposed to make a sound. by the way are all the 04 ls ultimate editions equipped with the air suspension. were other models such as the limited edition have different suspensions

It's the air compressor for the air suspension. It should be right near/ under the air filter area.
My buddy has a '10 model that has air ride and is not an ultimate edtion.
