Ok so old thread I know...but it's a sticky so I reckon it's worth posting here.

5W-30 was the recommended oil when these cars were produced. However over on the mustang boards, 5W-20 is the recommended oil based on a service update for vehicles of the same years with the 4.6. I have found that a 10W-30 is too thick at start up particularly in winter and colder climates but also in warmer climates as well, which makes starting a little harder.

Do with that information what you will, figured I'd just throw the info out there.

Currently using 5W20 Motorcraft Semi-Synth in my '95 GM without negative issues.

I was running 0W-20 Mobil 1 in my Mustang. It was a great oil for when it was my daily driver for my 2hrs worth of commuting every day.

I have yet to decide on the oil I'll be using in the GM but I'm leaning towards Motorcraft 5W-20 or a "high mileage" synthetic.

My car is going to be seeing some serious mileage as my commuter/mobile office for work all over NC and SC. So it would be a good decision on my part to choose well.
