There is a way. You push it up into the engine compartment enough to rotate it and drain the thing out before pulling it out. You have to be pretty speedy about it, though. Said oil then runs down your arm, into your shirt, and all over your back, but it's better than dripping all over the sub frame and leaving a drip or two on the garage floor for a few days. Getting to the upper a-arm bolts is even more fun, BTW.

SVT98t, what is your Exxon Valdez malfunction?

Quickie lubes are pure evil. I found out my car's splash shields were not reinstalled correctly, and the plastic housing for the oil filter cartridge was chipped and cracked due to the moron using a hammer and a screwdriver to turn it. It was on there hella tight so I used my torque wrench to take it off. It took 75 lb-ft to loosen it. The proper spec to tighten it is about 24 lb-ft, BTW.

If I'm sick again or have to send my wife to get it done, the cars will pay a visit to Mangjura, the local GMN quickie lube mang.

im just anal. its as simple as that. i like changing my oil at 3000 miles. its still a very light golden color when i drain it but it doesnt bother me. we burn it for heat in the winter time.

amsoil makes an oil and filter designed to go 25000 miles. imagine that, not changing your oil for 25000 miles! that to me is insane. we have a customer that escorts wide loads and puts tons of miles on their cars. they tried the 25000 mile thing for a while and didnt like it. they are back to using the regular amsoil.

i use amsoil in everything on my car. oil, atf and gear oil. i like it a lot.

You must have money to burn if you run Amsoil and still change it ever 3000 miles .....

If I dig "over there" long enough I might find a thread from a guy who ran his car from New to 25K on that set-up and posted very good results from an oil analysis . He threw up the before oil, The new oil and the oil drained at 25 K results.

I do 3000 mile synthetic oil changes as well. My Mark VII has been on the 3k regimin since new, and synthetic since 180k. The inside of that motor is actually shiny to the point that I could see a nice bright reflection off the oil pump when I put a chain in the car. Absolutely no sludge anywhere in that motor. Seems to be working, so I'm not going to fight it. Maybe I'm spending a little more than I really have to, but that motor has 230k on it and runs like a watch.

I'm not so old school. With today's oils I don't change every 3000. That's for the old guys that still don't have cell phones and still use their 1950's can or turtle wax. HAHAHA!

My Subaru calls for like 5000, my Fusion 7500 and my Merc 5000 miles. That's what I'll do. They where saying 3000 miles like 30 years ago. Oils and filters have gotten much better since then.

The 302 was also designed 40 odd years ago, so I'll go with 40 year old oil change intervals. The factory service manual calls for 3000 mile changes under severe conditions, and their definitions of severe service describe my driving habits. Synthetic may lubricate better, but I'm still concerned about chemical contamination with age. Oils become acidic over time from combustion by-products and they pick up moisture. I don't want that in my motor if I can help it. I may be a little anal about maintenance, but my overly-tinkered with cars run just like they're supposed to.

Also, cell phones suck. Long live the rotary dial shoe phone.

Agreed, I need to get me one of those. I'dprobably spring for a silent mode option, though.

Well, for one, i had an intake manifold gasket blow on the drivers side and alot of the coolant went into #8 cylinder. I didn't start burning oil until then.
Now, i get that beautiful blue cloud when accelerating from a light. It's usually more prevailant after an oil change, because there's more oil in the system.

                                And ther other reason, well........
