Have you checked out stated value insurance with low deductible ? Mileage limits and conditions vary depending upon the company.
I have 3 cars on stated value. For me it is an excellent deal.

I would make the wife pay for the parts and yes it is too bad about your car, if anyone hit my car I would be sooo beyond pissed to almost loseing my temper.Not good.
