One thing to think about is the base...it may not be like every other one just because that is a different style. So be careful if you are trying to purchase one because it may not seat correctly. And why are you in such a hurry?

What do you mean by having your car done? I never realized that a hood ornament would cause so much stress.

it's in the shop becuase of a mystery oil leak the whole engine is out and getting a total makeover. The result is Codenamed FE 302 Engine. The engine will be totally cleaned of with a wire brush than painted yellow. the manifolds have been beadblasted and then painted with Black Gloss paint. Thing is going to look sick. Then fresh red wire loom will cover all the factory wiring.

yellow engines and red wire loom? That stuff belongs on a Civic, not a Grand Marquis. If you're gonna do fancy colors, Ford Red for the engine.

i actually found out that 1979 Marquis used 302's with yellow blocks and heads. That is why i am painting my Ford Yellow.

lol. Heard that already. anyway i fixed my hood ornament. I am putting it back on after my car gets out of the shop.

Today we actually found evidence that this block was originally a light pale yellow color. That is why i choose to repaint it. I know lincolns had blue blocks. I have seen them before i don't understand why my block is originally light pale yellow. I know ford made a 302 that was yellow block back in the 70's i think. Is it the same block. Weird

When you pull it out, run the casting numbers on the block. That'll tell you for sure. I doubt it though.

ok so the block is not original. The casting number starts with D2TZ the rest of the letters are faded and i can't make them out. i think the previous owner did jerry rigging shit on this Car. I want to know what happened to the original block.

                        If i am correct C= 1960's decade D= 1970's Decade and E=1980's decade
1-9 means the year so in my case this is a 1972 Block. I am not sure what T or Z is.

this wouldn't surprise me because the original owner of this car did go 4x4ing with this car and jumping it. Bet he cracked the block doing so and put a different one on.

D2TZ = 1972 truck replacement engine block. Its a Ford service part number, so thats a new OEM block at some point in time.

frame seems fine when checked it. Some minor bends i've seen but they seem normal.

Great i got a truck block in a mercury any good advantages of that.
