1987 Mercury Grand Marquis AC Parts

Just met a friend that is rebuilding the AC on his recently obtained 1987 Mercury Grand Marquis. He is seeking the two manifolds that attach to the top of the AC compressor. Anyone have good ones or can give leads to them. I have yet to find any so am curious. They "may" be warped so we are looking for them, just in case new o rings are not sufficient.

pretty hard to damage those things but I think its used on a lot of vehicles with an FS6 compressor. Looking at stuff from about 1980-89.

if its messed up you can probably just use a flat file and make them flat again. the O ring is what does the sealing, so it would have to be pretty screwed up to not seal.

      Agree with Gadget.
That part could be found on a junkyard car. Chances are it would be good.

It most likely would be the o ring/s that are causing the issue. Just like to be prepared, just in case. Not sure if they are aluminum. He did tell me the old compressor suffered a good deal of heating (compressor may have been heat damaged) so they could be warped? Not sure if it really matters if the o rings are good so just "spit balling" here in case it is possible.

I do have a photo I took just for research purposes. Wonder if there is a torque spec or just tighten "as best you can"? Tried to post the photo but it is just over the 6 MB limit. If you have some photos, perhaps I can match to those.

The torque spec for the manifold bolt is 13-17 ft-lbs (18-23 Nm).

yeah those things. 4 bolts and they come off.

there is actually a special tool that screws into those manifolds to give connection to a gauge set. The idea is you can pull vacuum on the compressor and verify no leaks. I made a set to leak test a compressor I rebuilt.

Those are the parts exactly! Never seen a special tool that screws into those ports to check for leaks. Beside the one you made, are there any commercially available ones?

Sorry, all the compressors I have are 1988 and newer. Strange, I have the fat hoses that attach to the earlier manifolds. I must have sold the earlier compressors

Might as well post the links for reference just in case.
