Not sure why it has 15" wheels from a later car, other than tire selection.

There is, supposedly, a fuel flow sensor that goes inline on the fuel line to the carb which provides the fuel flow input for the Tripminder.
I have no good idea if the signal it uses is the same as what the CFI and SEFI ECMs used (therefore the Tripminder would or would not be compatible between them - but it seems the prevailing opinion is that it isn't).

looks like a nice car to start with if everything the owner says is true.

I think I can almost make out Cassette Tape on that door.
Also, based on this '79 with 8 track I would say the '82 above is cassette tape judging by how large that 8 Track is by comparison.

Yeah, the one is clearly 8-track and the other cassette. Both horrible formats from an audioholic standpoint.

As a kid/new Panther owner, I took the tripminder, cassette and premium sound for granted. I thought all Crown Vic's were loaded. Boy was I wrong.

My radio may have been a dealer install, as it was an Audiovox and not Ford. With the premium sound on, it had a lot of range and volume (which says a lot from a bass crazed teenager). Not really well balanced, however. I turned the premium off for normal listening, as it was too much bass unless you were pulling into the school parking lot. There is a tape in it this picture, Lynyrd Skynyrd greatest hits IIRC. In the CD era, I only had a few cassettes so it's not too hard to remember.

MPM indicates same tripminder from 82-89, but does imply 82 is the first year

10E848 appears to be the message center display like used on a Towncar, not the all in one units on the Vic and Mark VII.

No idea on tripminder wiring, there may be an interface module to translate fuel flow signal from the carb sensor to the unit. I know my diesel has a magic box somewhere between the lift sensor in the injector and the tripminder to make it work. It works so I haven't ever looked for it and have no clue what it actually does, but the diesel gets its fuel signal from a sensor within one of the mechanical fuel injectors that indicates how far the injector opened and for how long. MPG calcs are very accurate so its doing something right.

That's nifty. If I remember correctly, dad's Mark VII wasn't all that accurate while he had it. Back in those days, it was only ten or twelve years old.

Nice car. Just do a paint re-spray and replace the cruise buttons and it would look sharp. (there is/was a nos set same or close to the same color on Ebay recently.) Yup, it is a 82. I have that exact type am/fm cassette that I took out of my 83 MGM. It worked but something was wrong with it. I think the push buttons/ station indicator didn't move correctly. If anyone is interested in it, let me know. It is just sitting with the others in a box.
When I special ordered my 82 MGM, I could have got the 15 inch wheels. They were offered as the turbines or the steel, mostly offered on the wagons. I did not like that the wheels were so narrow. 15x 5 1/2 if I remember right. I chose to stay with the 14s as 225/70/14 tires were ordered.
Maybe I could order the 15s as the car was a special order ?
