this... way easier with my wife to ask permission first. of course, she trusts me with the cars since I can actually fix stuff (and have saved well over $2000 in labor costs alone in the past 2 years... prolly $3000 with the mark-up that shops put on parts).

if that car was here, it probably would have sold already for about a grand. Folks here in Texas like their gas hogs.

go offer them 350 and see what happens. Make sure its not ready to break in half or has a nuked transmission or something first though.

And I would not retire a known reliable car with climate control problems from DD service for a cheap unknown until I had gone over the new beater with a fine tooth comb to ensure it was reliable. Based on how much I pump into a vehicle to bring it to my idea of reliable, its a hell of a lot cheaper to just drop the dash and rebuilt the ATC stuff.

Very, very good advice here. Thanks! I agree 100%. I've just been really neglecting getting to the heater, and it's getting really cold out. I was thinking of offering $350...at that price it seems attractive as a winter beater...

Any vehicle of this size is a good investment for $400 or under. You're basically paying current scrap price for the vehicle. If it doesn't work out, part out a few quick seller items and junk it. When you think about it that way, you don't have to be so concerned about taking the chance. It might turn out to be an excellent car for quite a few years to come.

Nope. Swung by the lot while on a "date" with my 6-year old daughter, and they had just sold it. Figures. It had been on their lot for 6 months. I watched the price go down, down, down, then finally decide to make a move and discover someone else was apparently doing the same thing...
