I offered him 60 on it, because that's all I had at the time, and he pretty much laughed in my face (through the internet lol)

Although he did say he would sell it at the right price, I just couldn't cover the right price at the time. Granted the car is a police car MGM, but that (the speedometer) is really the only thing it has going for it (except maybe the vin)

If I had a Grand Marquis I would and could justify offering $250...it is the only one I have ever seen! Anything more than that and I would have to think long and hard about. But yeah if I was desperate to have it 250 would be what a number I would pay.

well from what he just sent me, he would reject that 250...

              Dear 87ltdcrownvic,

See eBay item # 280539301899. It is an ad for a more common Ford Torino police speedometer application. The price isn't far from what they bid for in the past.

I offered him $250, which he flat out rejected. I would never pay anymore than that, I really don't care at all how rare it is. I could have a brand new custom working speedo and faceplate assembly made inside my factory cluster, around here for around $800. Could have them make it read to 200mph if I wanted.

Bottom Line, Something is worth whatever someone else is willing to pay for it. He will be sitting on it for a long, long time into the future.

you know this makes me wonder, if he wants that much money for the speedometer alone, I wonder if it goes with the car....

so he's taking the only thing that's giving the car any sort of value (to someone who doesn't restore police cars) and selling it for more than the car itself?

                              Wow

EDIT: Let me rephrase that, even if a police car restorer wants to restore it back to its former glory, they can't without paying the godly high price of the speedometer (which again, more than what the car will sell for)

I mean the speedo is cool and everthing but if I was a police car buff, I don't think I'd even want to bother with a GM PI. I mean if you really want an old police car you might as well buy what all of the cops actually drove, a Crown Vic or Caprice.
