So lazy. 5 grand. Replacement Tranny comes with it.

maybe 5 grand if you get it in there and up and operational.

corection. Still not 5 grand worth.

It seems that the new baseline price for "runs and drives" is $1000.
The derby crowd will pay upper $1000s, let's call it 2k for a car with a clean frame.

Seems it's probably about double the price it should reasonably sell for, even if the working trans was installed.

Paint is typical and to be expected at this point, but it's also a good reason that it shouldn't be a high-dollar car.

It’s just pure laziness. It’s okay to put this car up with horrible pictures, dirty interior, bad transmission if the price matches that. In this case it’s no place close. You have to try at least to make an effort to get someone’s cash.

Agree that laziness spews from the posting and they could have done much better.

I'm hoping some passionate longroof lover off here picks it up for the $2500 that I think it's worth and saves it..

The derby crowd is getting deeper pockets here as well. I'm not sure what's behind it. Can't see throwing $2k at a car just to trash it in a few nights, but they do. Also I think my disposable income isn't growing like some people, so additional Panther collecting is becoming a tough bargain.

It's more nuanced than that. Demo derby is a diverse field of - dare I say it - motorsport, with entry level events and classes where you do the bare minimum to a car, but also pro-level events with cars that get seriously built and ran for many events. By the time they're through 10 derbies and have been rebuilt and reshaped, they have reconstructed body work made of diamondplate and they're running built powertrains that are designed to withstand abuse and still perform.

It is inherently destructive, but the pro stuff is a far cry from "throwing 2k at a car just to trash it in a few nights".
And obviously I would prefer it if they were using 2000 Corollas instead, but the cars that perform well and take a hit well are the ones they gravitate towards.

Sellers pricing their cars too high are (intentionally or otherwise) protecting the car from that fate, or at least postponing it, but the problem is that the people in this hobby who happen to like these cars don't have unlimited funds.

Possibly but that is assuming the trany didn't get trashed before getting a chance to replace the bushing. Only God would know how long and how it was driven before then. Certainly a possibility, though.

I think the reason people are spending more money on derby cars, is the money they make from selling parts. Ebay parts are sky high from derby guys. They don't like to negotiate prices either. It seems like they can recover their expenses by selling parts.

This. I'm feeling that more than ever the past couple of years.

This. But perhaps they don't. I'm astonished by the lack of effort in car ads and then seeing what they're asking. When I sold my dad's old car last year, it looked like a professional job and yet we got less than five grand for it. What I see around here are pictures of 1/5th of a car, usually a mangy dog or two and unintelligible text accompanied with an astronomical price tag.

I figured the derby guys were making money somehow.

This is a pretty common example of bottom dollar around here. Usually $800-$1200, running or not (this one runs). Straight body boxes are almost always $2000+. This poor example is ready for the derby guys.Click image for larger version Name:	IMG_3853.png Views:	0 Size:	943.0 KB ID:	1394569

I have a friend that does the derby circuit around here.
He prefers the front wheel drives and has a pretty good garage set up for getting a car ready in a weekend.
He made money last year doing derbies.
                            How much I couldn't say.
