You only have to lift it off by about 3-4 inches IIRC... but it's still gotta come off. If you do it right, you don't have to disconnect anything (wiring/hoses). The spacers help cradle the bushing in the frame cup for centering. I would suspect this may reduce a little strain on the cup and bolts in the long run (and Scott is a perfectionist when it comes to doing these types of jobs as he very much doesn't want to do the same job on a car twice) and I would think the lack of movement/open space would aid in keeping it rust free. That's all just theory though.

bernard: if you are not sure about the process then bring it up here so you can get assistance.............the quickest we have ever done this job here was 10 hrs (me and mrltd when i was healthier) the longest about 20 hrs (several of the bolts broke)

i was concerned that the bushings would wear really fast if there were no spacers there......the factory bushings had metal inside them to center the bushing on the frame.......on town cars the fenders walk around when the bushings in the rad suppt are bad.
