Hello,
I am brand new to the forum and also to owning a panther.
My dad worked for Ford for years at Chicago Stamping. Uncles also. My Uncle Chuck ALWAYS had Mercurys. He is the one that started my love affair with big cars. Fast forward decades and I need a bigger ride for my two growing kids. I just don't like the newer cars. Too much money and they just don't do it for me. Started looking at 4 door cars and settled on the Grand Marquis. Saw one on eBay and placed one bid on it. Never thinking that I'd win, I forgot about it till I checked back hours later. BAM! New owner of a California 1991 Grand Marquis with 76,000 on the clock. Owned by a 93 year old lady who just stopped driving. I have ALL the receipts from the day they got the car. The car is clean, in great shape and garaged it's whole life. I feel like I got lucky. We will see.
Flew from Seattle to LA and got the car. The old owner felt bad about the condition of the tires and had new ones put on for me. No charge!! Changed oil and tranny fluid also. My buddy and I checked the fluids and started to drive north. Car didn't shut off for 20 hours and 1600 miles later. No problems. 25 MPG at 70 miles an hour with the air on and some mountain passes to deal with. Like driving a couch down the road. Made me laugh when we hit bumps and such. A completely different ride from my 2007 F-150.
The passenger side front window doesn't work. The motor whirs but no movement on the window. My 11 year old and I are going to tackle this Wednesday. Thanks to this forum, I have a great idea of what is wrong. The trans slips while in Overdrive occasionally (not bad but enough that I stopped using OD except on the flats at highway speed) so that could be a bunch of things. I checked the TV and it is good. Probably the bands slipping. I am sure that the little old lady drove everywhere while in OD and not in D. Again, thanks to this forum I feel like I have a group of experts at the ready to help. Only other problem is the rear passenger door lock doesn't go down all the way. No biggie there.
Thanks for having such a great resource!
