It was my fault, I had well over a half ton of stuff driving from Cleveland to Detroit City and didn't know I should've had the OD off. Everything was fine till I pulled away from the last light before the hotel, it slipped horribly (I thought I killed it). Was never right after that.

No engine trouble although it steadily lost power under full throttle as it aged. Probably a sensor or clogged something or the other, never so bad I had to fix it. Iirc the only time it left me stranded was when the intake went kablooie.

I did end up changing the IAC valve. When its' bad the engine starts but won't idle or sputters etc. I cleaned it a couple times but ended up buying a new one. The wire to the brake light switch on the brake petal broke. If it breaks you can't move the shifter from park. I clipped it on with a pair of hemos, stayed that way for years

That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

X2 on fluid changes. I used synthetic oil until 150k.

I've seen the upgrade manifolds at JYs btw.

    Thanks.

              99 Grand Marquis

Hi, I have a 99 Grand Marquis with 120k on it and speed control and horn stop working. I've been told that my clock spring needs to be replaced. My question is should I get it diagnosed first before replacing it or just go ahead and replace it?

definitely check fuses/relays first. Clock spring requires special tools and special care with the bomb (airbag).

                  About the intake manifold...

Ok, yours may have been replaced under warranty.
We are talking about the coolant crossover on the from of the intake manifold.
If it looks like this (and what i'm pointing at is the coolant crossover):

                  Then you're good.

If it's all black, then you have the plastic one that's prone to failure.
If you don't know, then you can take a pic and post it and we'll tell you.
                  Good luck!!

well, I talked to Ford customer Service just before they closed today and the person said "clock spring" has nothing to do with speed control or horn. So based on this I need to go back and check fuses like you said and all connections. And yes, I've heard stories about the bomb and not going there. lol

No, frame is great. Just her car is her DD and I was going to put an 01+ 4.6 in it. The towny is long overdue to go back on the road. It depresses me. The vic will probably be back on before then tho.

I had a late '96, had the same all plastic intake. When it went, it didn't crack, it split all the way down the sides. This was around 120k, and I only had the car for a couple of weeks. Partially my own fault, though, since it had water instead of coolant (did not know about), and I floored it in the end of June in Oklahoma. Just hit 95 and poof, white cloud from my hood.

Oh, and no you can't melt zip ties to fix the crack. I tried.....
