HPP gets the better rear gears, trans cooler, and HD drive shaft I think. (performance/towing package)

hmmm... trans cooler and hd driveshaft... I know it has a steel driveshaft, what is the distinction between a normal duty driveshaft and a heavy duty one? Now I've gotta go look for a trans cooler too. I sure hope it has one, I was planning on adding an auxiliary trans cooler anyway. That'll be one less thing I have to do!
2000 Mercury Grand Marquis GS HPP - SOLD
Wore out the cam chain tensioners and jumped time at 176k miles.

The HD driveshafts are a little larger in diameter. I don't remember for sure if they were aluminum or not. They do use larger u-joints. I don't remember if the slip yolk is larger as well or not (though the part mating with the u-joint is larger for sure).

Is there any way to trace and find out just how many cars were built like mine?

Met a guy at work today that had a 2001 MGM LS with leather, center console (and floor shifter), Automatic Climate Control, Analog guages, and HPP with an open 3.27 geared rear end. Guy had 226k miles on it, and said he'd never had to do any major repairs to it at all. I suspect this car ends up in the junk yard when it the cam chain tensioners need replaced though.
