    Me n my Grand Marquis

I joined back in June, when I adopted a 2003 GM LS, Ice Blue, leather, 125,000 miles.

got it at Hixon Autoplex, Alexandria, LA (Ford/Lincoln/Mercury)

131,000 miles now, been traveling some, even went by Mark Martin Ford in Batesville, AR to see his museum/dealership.

Car consistently gets 23-25 mpg on the highway. Absolutely mo mechanical probs so far

My brother and I will soon be selling a house in Louisiana..

Should I just fix the front bumper cover (damaged), cigerette lighter I burned out running my iPhone, and neutral safety switch to get the backup lights working...

or when I get the cash in hand, trade up to a used 2006-2008, with lower mileage?

    would love opinions..

I'd say fix all the little things, if you're anything like me you'll miss the car as soon as you get rid of it.

Wow, that's a lot of miles for a 6 year old car! My wife's same-year Cavalier is just over 50k, and she commutes in it. But, if your car has no major problems, it's usually far cheaper and easier to keep what you have. The '03 is hardly a bad car to start with, since that was the year they upgraded the suspension.

What would be your primariy motivation in trading for a newer used car?

1987cp, the history of my 2003 is that it was a Rental car in Florida for the first year.

It was then auctioned at 12,000 some odd miles to the former L/M dealer in Alexandria, LA

second owner was a lady, who used it to commute back and forth to work. She put 0over 100,000 miles on it.

talking to her, she kept it maintained since the GM was her parents main ride.

She buys one year old cars, and trades them at 6, been doing that since she got her first job.

My motivation for wanting a newer car is because girlfriend and I both have mobility problems, the days of the GM car line is coming to and end, and when I get my chunk of money, I can pay cash for whatever, with or without a trade in.

if you fix the nits, you still have a drivetrain with 131,000 miles on it, as opposed to buying a newer car with 20,000-60,000 on it.

My ideal would be to get girlfriend to trade her 95 Mercury Tracer on another GM.

We haven't run a full tank of gas through the tracer since getting the GM.

and the local dealer has a 07 Taurus on the used lot.. we sat in it today.. NAH....

once you have a GM, nothing else will work, unless its a Crown Vic, or Town Car.

If you can afford a newer one, given your situation, you may want to go that route. Get it with a good extended warranty that will cover nit picky things that arise. You can do basic mods that wont void it, such as cat-back exhaust and a K&N replacement filter on a newer one. Buy from a dealer not a used car lot. Dealers tend to get better cars. But do what you want, we'll back you no matter your decision. (Panthers are Panthers!)

convince the GF to sell the Tracer. Can you go wrong with TWO panthers? I think not. Hell, I have two, one of them is a rotten immobile hulk, and I still like it.

You want to talk about miles? My 2003 CVPI has just over 163000 and still running strong. I believe it was a Baldwin County AL. Sheriff car before the friend I bought it from got it.

                      muh RAWD ur.....

                      hmmm... thats a thought..

black cars get kinda hot here in the Southern US, though..

I don't drive anymore.. just ride.. really don't NEED two big Mercs around..

She loves the electric shoulderbelts in the Tracer,, and she yearns for a car with the dimmer switch on the floor.

and I'm still kicking myself for not buying that 1964 Ford Galaxie fastback in 1987...

fix the 2003, and find us a carshow toy? thats the fun of the hunt.. explore options, think them out, and have no regrets when you do make a move.
