    Found 1983 Police; Have questions.

I just found a 1983 LTD Crown Victoria Police Car

    351
    AC
    No Cruise
Blue in side with new blue paint (Looks nice at first, but can see some rust bubbles here and there. Drivers seat has worn seat. Needs new ac clutch for sure. Decent set of tires with full hubcaps. Sorry I didn't get pics. Car does look nice and clean and grabs attention. But it is 26 years old.

    119,000 original miles.

    $550.00

Started right up. Sounded pretty good.

    Is it worth $550?

    It's a sharp car.

So, those in the know, what does this car have underneath that the standard car doesn't, besides the 351. What carb is on that puppy?

I don't need this car, but I sure would love to have because it is a cop car and I come from a cop family.

I dont know much..but it should have police sized sway bars, and maybe more things..

One question did it have gauges installed above the glove box?

Definitely worth 550 as long as it doesn't have terminal rust or drivetrian problems.

The 351 got the Variable Venturi carb. Among other things, you should have a 1" rear sway bar, larger front sway bar, solid (and greasable) front upper control arm bushings, tranny and power steering coolers, limited slip rear iirc, dual exhaust, and plenty of general bad-assedness.

      Congrats on the find!

PS - if you say you don't "need" it, and consider selling it, keep me in mind

Didn't notice any. Was kinda too fixated on the 140 speedo.

lol I would be too. 140 speedo is a plus, but if it had the police auxiliary gauge pack that would be even cooler, but come to think of it i remember Neums saying that 83's may have had those gauges in a different place.

550 if its solid and in decent shape is a deal, police car or not.

Definentlty a good price, if it is in decent shape, like the others have said. If the car runs good... great, but if the carb is messing up, get rid of it and go to a four barrel... they were ok as long as they ran right... when they start messing up... ditch it...

The other location for gauges were in a small pod on top of the dash, right near the driver side "A" pillar...

                    The Police cars have....
A heavy duty frame... sort of like a truck frame on a car...
                    heavy duty suspension
                    heavy duty cooling
                    heavy duty electrical charging system
structural bracing in places that a normal CV doesn't have.
Bigger brakes even the booster is different
                    bigger u-joints
                    oil, trans. power steering coolers...

thats all I can think of right now... someone may come up with more...

I want the car, but my wife is against it so I've got to work on that. I try to explain what the car is and I get a blank stare.

Anyhow, I'm more concerned with saving the car from local 'Stangers and being gutted for the 351.

Here are some pics of the outside. Couldn't take interior pics today. Took some close ups of some of the "paint job" Definitely NOT a Scott Dickinson body of work.

Anybody want a Geo Metro with new 3 Cyl engine? If I can sell it fast enough before the Vic gets gone, I won't have to go through the redhead.

Dang, if only my truck tires didn't need replacing this past week...

It is pretty looking aside from some of the repair work. You can easily cover up the rust around the window frame with some trim from a civilian car.

                          WOW, that looks very clean.
But the rust is an easy fix, and its not very noticible if your not looking for it.

I say you should get it
