    Introducing Myself

Hi, my name is Ricki and i am from Norwalk California. Im 20 years old. I found this site a few days ago. I have been a fan of the Panther-platform Fords for awhile. I have a physical disability and dont have much use of my legs. Im in the process of trying to get my license. Im pretty sure that i will need to get some type pf hand control setup when i can start driving. I dont have a car yet but i want a 1988-91 Grand Marquis. My dad has a 1990 LS with 290k on it.

            Welcome!

What does one have to go through in order to get something outfitted with hand controls? I'm guessing there are specialty shops for stuff like that? Do you need to go through some sort of state inspection to have the controls certifed, or is it just a matter of the shop has to be certified and you have to be tested on operating them? Don't mean to be nosy, I'm just curious.

It shouldn't be overly difficult or expensive to fit a box with hand controls. I keep seeing used cars and vans with them; I've even seen a few Panthers with them fitted.

              Welcome, Ricki!

I am not even sure what it all entails yet olo, so far ive just been going thru some of the medical forms. i have to get a doctors approval. i think i will have to take a special drivers ed class. Ive never personally seen a box GM with hand controls in it but im pretty sure it could be done, but idk about cost.

My dad has a Oxford White 90 LS. shess got about 290k miles on her and it needs a new water pump. I was thinking of just seeing if i could either get or buy it from him but im not sure if i will because of the mileage on her. He is the 3rd owner. the car was originally sold by Ryburn Ford in Monticello, Arkansas to one of my dad's friends' relatives. they had it out there for about a year i think, then shipped it out here to some other relatives that live maybe half mile from me. They had it for about 15 years and took pretty good care of her. Then they got a jeep and were going to sell my dad the GM for $800, but ended up just giving it to him for free. So i've known her for awhile. I think my dad wants to sell her though.
