Its Gone and then came back

The noise i described last time is getting to me. i thought it maybe a belt tensioner or an idler pulley but im questiong that again. the sound comes and goes and only sometimes when im accelerating from a stop and once i get into second gear it goes away. the sound is a ratling cheaping sound almost sounds like coffee perculating or a chain draging. im getting the car an alighnement on friday so maybe ill ask my mechanic friend to look around. Once again any ideas ?
    Thanks..........

    Might be detonation.

Maybe a little back firing in the intake? Does it run funny when its happening?

Sounds to me like detonation/ pinging, as was suggested above.

Perhaps the timing needs adjustment. If the timing is right, try a higher octane gas.

it dosen't run funny. but i did have a MSD blaster coil on it but i took it off beacuse it did make the intake backfire once or twice. I tried changing the timing once with an Accell moduale but that was a joke. the moduale was bad and the car ran like shit. so i took it off and just left the MSD coil on turned the timing back down to stock and it was fine until the one time the intake backfired. Anyway the noise is very hard to explain but i know its comming from the front of the engine but it goes away now once the car warms up or a few seconds after i start it, its weird. but like i said the sound is hard to explain but its comming from the belt area, it sounds like gurgaling but not poping, and on and off when it does it. Thanks

mmmmm. maybe its the broken exhasust air tube making the noise.

That sounds like a bad sign if an aftermarket coil is correlated with a backfire. Just to stick to the very basics, you do know the proper procedure to set the timing if the car is SEFI? I.E. unplug the SpOUT connector, set the initial spark timing in the usual manner to 10-14 degrees with a timing light, and reconnect the SpOUT connector?

spOUT was removed and was checked with a timing light, set at 10 degrees

Good, good ... how's your fuel delivery? Correct fuel pressure and all that? No cylinders significantly leaner than the others, suggestive of a clogged injector?

That should be good considering i use fuel injector cleaner regularly and I have changed the fuel filter and its good on gas and the guy who owned it before me had a new fuel pump installed and it runs fine no chuging or thingd like that. But I really think it maybe the belt tensioner or idler pulley beacuse all the noise is coming from that direction and the noise will go along with how high or how low the idle is when i first start it up in the morning.(high idle the noise will be at the same pace and low idle it will be at same pace then it goes away) My brother is convinced that its the tensioner because he has vic's his entire life and says he heard and seen it before on his own car. So I will probally will go that route... Thanks
