    New to grandmarq

    Hey everyone,
Im new to this forum, and i look forward to conversation with you all.
I'm the owner of a 1985 Grand marquis LS (Completely stock) that i recently bought for 700$(Canadian), engine: a 351 Windor, 5.8 litre. I dont have a pic unfortunately, but ive been wondering if it would be worth while to have it done up. It runs great (Always starts perfectly, rides good), but not everything is perfect. Im not much of a mechanic, so im not sure if it would be worth fixing it up or if i should look for a better conditioned panther body to work with. I should have pics soon, but until then any information or feedback you have on this perticular model will be much apprieciated. Thanks.

Sounds offhand like a neat acquisition - I don't see many 5.8L Grand Marquis down here. Some mechanical glitches are normal on a 23-year-old vehicle .... lots of that is probably stuff you'll be thinking about upgrading down the road anyway (esp. carb/ignition/exhaust), so it may not be a big concern in the long run. Plenty of us weren't mechanics when we started wrenching, and most of our stuff at least runs. It of course all comes down to what you feel is worth spending your time and money on, but I'd tend to say, if it's got a body and paint you can live with (not a lot of rust, and preferably none), go for it!

Cool, yea i knew the 5.8 litre was fairly rare, thanks for the reply, again, i should have some pics up soon if your interested. Theres almost no rust on it, just some speckles on the driver side, its 2-tone brown and tan, and its a 4-door. Its got the origional steel rims too

what kind of carb would be appropraite to upgrade to?

If you've got a mostly rust free car in Canada, keep it.

Ditching the stock intake for something that will take a 4bbl carb would be a good idea. I like Quadrajets but nobody else does. Edelbrocks are a popular swap.

Quadrabog!!! I'm gonna have to think about trying one of those if I need another carb in the future ... wasn't the 351W the engine it was impossible to find a spread-bore intake for, though?

I think so. Someone may make one, but I've never actually looked into it. Ironically, the only carb GM products I have run Weber carbs, which are Edelbrocks without that stupid chrome finish that gets nasty.
