    transmission grommet replacement....

thought i would post a warning to all new comers to the site. those who have different 5.0 models from 87-91 Crown Vics and Grand Marquis and Town Cars up to i think 1990. there are a few other years i am sure that need the replacement also that others can post that they know of.

the tv cable grommet should be replaced with a brass bushing. the brass bushing is about a $5 part and will save the problem of a costly transmission rebuild later on. the grommet is a white plastic piece that is positioned on the throttlebody arm next to the accelerator cable. with age, they get brittle and worn out and the transmission cable falls out causing the transmission to run at a constant pressure that burns them up. others have posted this link on the site here but it gives good pictures....

This is a must-see site for fans of American luxury hot rods. Message forums, tech advice, news, and automotive performance links are offered for Lincoln Mark VIII and Mark VII, Lincoln LS, Town Car, Continental, Navigator, Aviator, Zephyr, MKR, MKS, MKZ and more.

in case you didnt see the part number...
The brass TV bushing is something you'll have to get at your
friendly local Ford dealer. Go to the parts counter and ask
for one of the following part number: F3SZ-7H303-B
the dealer might not have part on the shelf and have to order it. i stopped in and they only had the plastic replacement and i gave them the part number and said they could have it next day if needed. can also try a transmission shop to see about the part and obtaining it. just thought this would be useful info for all the new people joining the site and to save on the wallet.

Also, any carbureted or CFI car 79-85 will have the same grommet, which should be replaced for the same reason as cable-equipped cars.
