1984 Marquis Gentleman I'm trying to do an engine swap from a 1988 Towncar 5.0 efi

    1984 Marquis

Gentleman I'm trying to do an engine swap from a 1988 Towncar 5.0 efi to a 1984 Mercury Grand Marquis. The donar vehicle is complete.I install it already crank but doest fire up.I have power to coil and ecu and fuel relays with ignition 12 volt from key due to some splices. But fuel pump not turning on and inertia switch has no power in the back. The injectors have 12 volt but no pulse.Any ideas please and thank you.

ECA relay not turning on (hot in key on and start). This supplies power to all the other relays and sensors.

ECM ground come loose at the battery negative terminal?

Wonder if ECM's are grounded through their cases or you can just plug in the connector and let them hang by the firewall - just for testing purposes, of course?

they ground through the wiring. Several grounds actually, one right to the battery, another to the engine block, and at least one more goes to a screw next to the ECM.

Doesn't the ignition module have a wire for start power separate from the normal power wire? Is that one getting power during crank?

Yes there a crank wire and a start wire that are connected #3 and #4

Might try triggering the starter solenoid on the fender (battery lug to small lug) with the key in the on position and see if that works. If it does start, then it means the crack wire isn't getting power on the ignition module.

Can this no power or pule happen if a neutral switch is not connected?

No, but it may not go into self-test mode if thats not connected properly.

The ignition system doesn't actually need the ECM to make spark. The only thing the computer does is provide spark advance. If its got power, it'll fire the coil.

I do see what you are saying about the non cumputer need it but I have a random EFI distributor here, so I hooked it up to the harness plug, grounded it to engine, and spun it by hand. Bam!....lots of clicking(injectors) and lots of flashes(noid). But when i place in back in engine no pulse on injector or pulse on coil smh any help please and thank you

Is the distributor turning with the engine? (cap off and just see if it turns while cranking)
