While it won't help with actual engine performance, a rear gear swap would give you a noiceable seat-of-the-pants difference. You probably have 2.73's or 3.08's now. For a lot of interstate use, swap to 3.27. For highway/city mix, 3.55 is ideal. For city, you can go to 3.73 or even 4.10's, but highway MPG will likely suffer.1990 Country Squire - under restoration

You can find a 3.27 posi rear end with disk brakes in a junkyard, shouldn't be too hard to find. Those would be on 92-97 PI's, and possibly later models.88 Town Car (wrecked, for sale)

welcome to GMN. my 1987 CV tudor has 3.27 open rear gears. it scooted, but now it sits needing an engine. it is a project now that is gonna take time as will yours. it might have sat all winter but i wont part with it. these cars are addictive. trust me, i know, since i have now been an owner of 5. there are others here that will agree they are addictive. best ones to find are the tudors also. i would love to have another. have fun and we will all answer your questions.
