Detroit - RADwood & Concours D'Lemons

This is completely independent from, but may well function as an additional GMN Detroit Meet 2022 (see that thread for non-RADwood, non-D'Lemons meet discussion).

On Saturday September 17, RADwood will return to Detroit, MI at the 61 Elizabeth St lot, adjacent to Comerica Park along Woodward Avenue.
On the same day, at the same time, on the same property, Concours D'Lemons will take place in concert with RADwood.
Both are produced by Hagerty.

I do not feel my cars are in RADwood-appropriate condition (maybe the 83, but it is unlikely to be on the road in time for this), but I certainly have one that might work at the Concours D'Lemons. I intend to be there.

If anyone else is interested in attending, we can try to coordinate rolling in together or something along those lines. This thread can be our whiteboard.

I attended this combo event yesterday. There was a decent turnout but not what RADwood was at the last time I went to it...mind you, I think the registration to put a car in RADwood is expensive, maybe $100. The Lemons show was 15 bucks. There were 4 Panthers in attendance; one box Town Car at RADwood, two 03+ (one Ford lifted for offroading and one Mercury appearing pretty clean) and my Ford wagon at Lemons

While my wagon earned a lot of attention and was definitely among the cars that more people stopped and spent more time looking at, it did not win any awards sadly. I wouldn't say it was best (worst) in show, but it definitely seemed to capture the spirit of the show better than many entrants.

There were some issues with how this was promoted and managed, which I believe fall to Hagerty's events team to improve for the future. These shows were rolled in as Hagerty events but started independently before Hagerty bought them, or however it is they came to be in charge of them.

Nice Peugeot 504 and Saab 96 there. Haven't seen a 504 in a long time, you yanks probably don't see either of those too often.

Dunno if it's just me being European, but from the photos RADwood seems kinda boring. I guess here old german cars aren't considered nearly as cool just for being old and german

I sort of have the same feeling for any FWD US or Japanese vehicle from the 80s onward. They have zero interest to me unless its something really rare or goofy.

I havent been around Comerica park for quite some time. I last attend (for work) sometime around 2016/7 and remember that there are a lot of places to go and eat around the area...kinda fitting for a having a football and baseball stadium right next to each other. Was a fun outing.

Don't see very many of those VW pickups. That one is about a 1962.

Pretty much my sentiments, minus the rarity or goofy part.

my interest in that sort of thing is largely limited to "oh wow, been a while since I saw one of those. Anyway..." Most of them don't even get that much notice from me. If I saw something bonkers like an AWD diesel Tempo I'd have a look because seriously WTF?

Hmm, yeah, like "I forgot this was a thing!" I like Tempos and Escorts from the late 80's to mid 90's. Always wanted one in stickershift flavor. Forgot until now. Heard Tempos are garbage though. Haven't they mostly rusted back into the earth by now?

I drove one once too, five speed. Shifter was so sloppy that the only gears I could find were "yes" and "try again."
