Signs of a failing fuel pump?

As you may know, my fuel gauge is on strike and a few weeks back I unknowingly hit empty the hard way, car ran out of gas, could only drive like at 5mph till i got gas in it.

ever since my fuel pump is loud as hell and the car kind bogs out on me when i punch it all the way, it kinda sputters.

I assume changing the fuel filter and pump should take care of this?
First I am installing MSD ignition coil, cap and rotor and spark plug wires, just to make sure its not one of those things.

    Any other ideas?

sounds like you sucked shit from the bottom of the tank or you didnt put in enough gas.

i'd change the fuel filter and see if it goes away

running out of gas can trash the fuel pump. I've seen it happen on a few different cars.

Fuel pumps on these are very durable. Replace the fuel filter and see what you get. I know of very few people with Panthers who have actually had a fuel pump die. Blaze replaced his at like 250k miles chasing a problem, and it was not the fuel pump. I did mine at 160k when the tank rotted out, pump was fine. Lincolnmania has over 200k on his original.

Mine got loud after the car ran outta gas, sounds like its getting ready to kick the bucket.
but changing the filter is way easier, guess I'll start with the easy shit.

I have over 250k on mine as well i've ran it dry a few times and usually only keep like 3 gallons of gas in the tank at all times.

try that with a gm pump lol..

i had like 220,00 on mine and it whined all the time but i changed it just to be safe, the tracer my gf has has hte same whine and it still runs fine.

i ran the new pump empty once no payin attention to the fuel level and it never had a problem.

but yea. change the filter and see how it goes. if you change the pump obviously change the strainer but yea you probably know the drill

Try that with a Fox pump. My LSC is on pump #3 in 225k.

Mine's always loud, I'd be worried if it started being quiet.

I thought mine had died and changed it during the summer with 80k on it. Come to find it ended up being the relay and the pump was fine so now I have a spare. Those Bosch/Motorcraft pumps seem to be pretty well made even if they aren't the quietest. The old one whined and the new one does to.
