Ugha. at that bill humm ill half to be saving my pennies hehe. Boom truck operator would be myself :P. 800lbs is nothing compared to 2400lbs. with a heavy duty chain hoist. My only concerns with that is how to be sure to keep it from swinging left and right and. Of corse how to talk my employer into letting me use it for that.. His concern would be ofcorse. Oil all over the truck and my respounce would be plastic/cardboard ect.

Then his other concern would be how long would that engine me on his truck ^_^ humm which i would actually have no idea hehe.

But so Either a Home made steel swing frame. ( I can do this with the welder feller i was talking about. Or. The boom truck. :P YAY hehe. Thanks, brother. Ill go ask Steve and Albert. If they would do that for me hehe. I know Albert would due to $$$ hehe.

How about pulling the engine, and sticking it on a motor stand? Much easier to work with once its on a stand, no movement, and you can flip the whole motor over if you need to.

Ask for a timing chain for a 1988 mustang 5.0. then open the box to make sure its got 2 rows of teeth. I constantly get handed the single row one. Got one just last night as a matter of fact. It goes back, didn't fit on the crankshaft anyway. Just make sure you put loctite on the cam bolt. You want the red kind.

If you got blowby, it will at a minimum need rings, and you have to hone the cylinders out so the rings will seat. Lots of times if the motor has miles, the cylinders won't be within spec anyway. To hone the cylinders, the crank needs to come out, so it should be checked to make sure its good. I'd also hot tank the block to clean it, which will make you need new cam bearings. It might not need so much work, but at a minimum, if you're pulling it apart, I would want to be sure everything is in spec and clean before putting it back together.

I'd take your time with it too....invest in an engine puller new or used....and engine stands can be had used also....scratched up...dont matter still work the same

I spent about $200 for my hoist and stand brand-new from a local hardware store. Rural King had three-caster engine stands as cheap as $35 as I recall. A chain or cable hoist can stand in for a regular engine hoist if you have some garage trusses to hook it to and then push the car out from under it.

Yep, we passed it twice when going to the highway with the Viper when you were out here. The other Micheal lives near it. Perhaps you were distracted by the Hooter's next door to the HF?

Oh, okay. Nah, I was probably much more distracted by my brain and stomach lagging several feet behind me every time we hit the gas! :p And then there was the time along one stretch when the radar detector went haywire ....

Are you going to have the intake off? If so (or maybe even if you won't), you might go ahead and do the cam swap, since removing the timing cover with the oilpan in place is kind of a pain.
