    ETAC Blend Door Reset

This may have been posted before. I did a sercrh on "blend door" and got 100s of hits, so I'm adding this in.
My 2001 GM started blowing hot air a few weeks ago. My mechanic told me that the blend door is controlled by a solenoid, not a vacuum motor, so my looking under the hood for a loose line was in vain. Anywho, my mechanic attached a code reader to the port, found the solenoid in the network and sent it a "reset" command. That worked. Better than tearing the firewall/dash area apart to get to the door itself.

Now if I could figure out what exactly happens when the scan tool sends the reset request, maybe this could be applied to a 91 which is of course not OBDII.

From my searching the same part# XW7Z19E616BA is used on the 2001 as is now used on the 1991 that I have.
This is based on what rock auto has listed and a post in another thread where the poster indicated (on another site) that he got this information from a Ford dealer parts guy.
The guy listed the parts supersession being part# F0VH19D961AA is superseded by part# F8VZ19E616BA which is superseded by part# XW7Z19E616BA.
I guess this may not guarantee that the F0VH19D961AA part would know what to do with this reset request, but it sure would be nice if it was that easy on the pre OBDII cars.

Does the YH503 even have an electrical conector? If not, how do you "reset" vacuum lines?? The newer part probably does have an electrical connector so maybe it is possible. The newer blend doors usually physically break so a "reset", even if possible would be useless.

the blend door on newer cars (90+) is electric, not vacuum like -89.

Yep, it would be interesting to see schematics for an 01 and see what the wireing looks like between the OBDII connector and the BDA, maybe all it would take is a data line... but then I would still need the right scan tool.

Then again the scan tool may not communicate directly with the BDA, but may actually send the commands through the HVAC control module which would further complicate my initial idea since the control head is not the same for 91 and 01.

You can also sometimes just run a self test on the HVAC panel and achieve the same effect.

                ^^ this

Just perform a self-test by presing OFF and FLOOR together and then press AUTOMATIC.

The eatc will perform a self test and test the full range of the BDA. SOMETIMES, this will free up a sticking BDA. Either way, you should plan on replacing it soon.

Note: if every light on the earc lights up after the self test, this means it passed. Just cycle the key to end test. 24 or 25 should be a code for actuator.
