1.) A carburetor, a carbureted intake manifold, a new ignition system, a modified fuel pickup in the gas tank and an aftermarket electric fuel pump or a mechanical fuel pump and new timing cover with the provision for the mechanical fuel pump, some custom fab'd fuel lines in the engine bay at minimum... lots of electrical removal (buy an EVTM to see what wires and sensors you can eliminate).
2.) Fox Mustang Shorties, unequal length. The stock HO tubular manifolds (basically a header) fit nicely with a stock engine. Don't go larger than 1 5/8 on the primaries, I'd recommend 1 1/2 inch on a stock engine.
3.) 3.55's are good for a daily driver. 3.73's are okay too, especially if you stay under 65 mph for the most part.
4.) I'd wait on the ignition until you do the carb conversion. Stock replacement cap and rotor should be okay until then. If you'd like, try to get brass terminals in the distributor cap (they don't corrode as bad as aluminium ones).1990 Country Squire - under restoration

I average 17 with a carb on the highway. With a b cam in it no less. Depends on the engine set up.1989 Grand Marquis LS

if it's a DD, I strongly suggest leaving it it EFI.
doing a full HO conversion will get you into the low 16s in the 1/4 mile if you have 3.55s.
or if you can find a good set of GT40 heads, those are good.
an HO intake is better than the stock one, but an Explorer or GT40 is better from what I hear.
Summit Racing sells some nice Ceramic coated shorty headers for 302s that are a great value..I got em on my car. 240bux and they are VERY thick and heavy duty compared to the other shorties out there.
for gears...I got 3.55s..I like em but my hwy mpg with my EFI motor going about 70-75mph was 21.5.
city with them was as high as 18. I swear I noticed a difference with a K&N filter on the stock air cleaner setup..went from getting 17 in the city to over 18.Last edited by Mr. Land Yacht; 06-23-2008, 10:46 PM.sigpic

You may also have problems getting it through emissions with a carb. Not sure the laws there in Chicago though.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

the B cam isn't well suited for a heavy car, and I doubt the stock EFI will run well with it. Mustang mass air stuff will do it but with those lousy heads, you're going to end up with a huge turd of a performer.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).
